Chelsea heeft gunstig geloot voor de achtste finales van de FA Cup. De formatie uit Londen werd zondag gekoppeld aan tweedeklasser Cardiff City. Het lot bepaalde dat The Blues thuis spelen. Chelsea is de enige topclub bij de laatste zestien. Liverpool, Arsenal en Manchester United werden al in een vroeg stadium uitgeschakeld.
Manchester City, na Chelsea de grootste favoriet voor de eindzege, neemt het bij de laatste zestien op tegen Stoke City, dat Arsenal zondag uitschakelde. Aston Villa en Tottenham Hotspur spelen, mits ze hun replays in de vierde ronde winnen, uit tegen respectievelijk Wolverhampton Wanderers en Bolton Wanderers.
