Arsenal young gun Mathieu has admitted to not being happy when originally asked to play left back by boss Arsene Wenger.

21-year-old midfielder Flamini was asked to play left back due to injuries to both Ashley Cole and deputy in the position Gael Clichy. The Frenchman has been very impressive in switching positions having had to play there for some time now and doing well in an inexperienced back line. After the injuries to many of their defender's the Londoner's have coped surprisingly well and their recent defensive record speaks for itself after another vital clean sheet against Villarreal.

"The first time Mr Wenger asked me to play at left full back in a training session, I was very surprised." Flamini told French football magazine L'Equipe. "I made him repeat 'Me coach?' To be honest I was not very happy, but the team was decimated in defence, and the group's interest is the most important. More often in modern football, a good player has to be able to adapt. It is not easy when you have a real winger in front of you. But I try to do my best, at first remaining very viligant."
