Aston Villa manager David O'Leary has indicated that Newcastle are prepared to let the player leave the club in the summer.

In a very poor season for the Villains, Milner has been one of the bright sparks in the club following his loan signing from St James' Park. O'Leary has said repeatedly that he would love to sign the youngster, to whom he gave his Premiership debut at Leeds, on a permanent basis. Villa's only worries appear to be over the asking price for the tricky winger as Newcastle forked out a reported £5 million on the up and coming star. David O'Leary has also indicated that Milner would like to stay at the club and hopes to seal a deal within the next fortnight.

"I can say that the club want to buy him and we have started negotiations with Newcastle on that," O'Leary told Sky Sports News. "Newcastle have given us a price and hopefully we can secure that." He expressed his desire to keep the player but saying "We believe he is an Aston Villa player, even though we do not own him," The news comes as a bbost to fans but many will be disappointed as the signing of the player could be the end of their dealings this summer and would see them with exactly the same squad that have done so poorly this term.
