Republic of Ireland international Steven Reid has handed in a transfer request at Premiership club Blackburn Rovers, according to reports.

Reid's current deal at Ewood Park expires next summer but talks on an extension to that contract have failed to bring about a resolution suitable to all parties.

And according to media reports, the former Millwall man has lost faith with the club and informed officials that he wants to leave this summer.

That could lead to a transfer chase between Manchester United and Tottenham, both of whom have been linked with the player over the past six months.

Should Spurs succeed in luring Reid back to London, United would then step up their interest in Tottenham's England midfielder Michael Carrick, for whom they had a £10m offer turned down at the weekend
