England manager Sven Goran-Eriksson says he will take a closer look at Rio Ferdinand and as to whether he will play in the heart of midfield for the Three Lions.
Eriksson speaking to the BBC said, "In some games maybe we need a sitting midfielder. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard can do it but they are not playing that role at their clubs. Rio could be a choice, Ledley is another choice".
Ledley King, the Tottenham captain has played in the role before and impressed the Swedish coach, however it looks set that Ferdinand will get the nod. Michael Carrick is also available but looks to be the underdog in the race to see who will partner David Beckham and co in the midfield quartet.
The big question then is who will partner John Terry in defence, with Rio possibly out of the situation; either Michael Dawson or Anton Ferdinand could be favourites ahead of Sol Campbell.
