Jonathan Woodgate's future remains uncertain after the on-loan Middlesbrough defender admitted he is not sure if Real Madrid want him to return to the Bernabeu.

Woodgate joined the Teessiders for a season-long stint in August following an injury-plagued spell in the Spanish capital but has had no indication of what Madrid intend to do with him next summer.

"I honestly don't know what is going to happen," he told Diario AS. "The future is not in my hands. My main aim is to play as many games as possible and help Middlesbrough qualify for a European competition."
