Alan Shearer will be invited onto the England coaching staff by manager-in-waiting Steve McClaren, according to newspaper reports.

McClaren will take over from Sven-Goran Eriksson after the World Cup and is already believed to have asked former England boss Terry Venables to join his backroom team.

He also wants ex-England captain Shearer, who ended his long and distinguished playing career at the end of last season.
