Paul Dickov has been ruled out for up to two months after suffering a fracture in his toe.
The 34-year-old missed Saturday's goalless draw at neighbours Bolton Wanderers, and the Scot will now have surgery to treat the nagging toe injury.
It has now been confirmed that the former Arsenal, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers hit-man will be sidelined for the next eight weeks as a result, having suffered discomfort in his toe before Christmas and then undergoing an X-ray about 10 days ago.
City boss Stuart Pearce confirmed Dickov's current injury woe.
"Paul has a problem with his toe to do with what appears to be a floating bone," Pearce told the Manchester Evening News.
