Neville's delight at winning

Manchester United captain Gary Neville spoke of his experience as he lifted the Carling Cup trophy as The Red Devil's captain. United cruised to a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff today.

Last week Alan Smith suffered a horrific injury and Neville commented on this saying that the Carling Cup win was for Smith. "We were devastated because we lost, but we were more concerned about Alan". The United boys also wore t-shirts with the labelling 'For You Smudge' across the front.

"I am looking forward to collecting the trophy as captain of Manchester United" Neville said, after what was to be his first trophy as the skipper. Neville also commented on the game, saying United were 'comfortable'. "We were comfortable after we got the second goal, and we are happy with the result, it was very important that we won today after taking a lot of criticism" added Neville.

Gary then went onto lift the Carling Cup to a phenomenal fireworks display with joy and delight in every player and fans heart. Wayne Rooney was awarded the Man of the Match award. "Its amazing, everyone's delighted to win" Rooney said with a big smile on his face. "Its great to win, I did not expect to play" said Louis Saha after the victory.

Wigan Athletic Captain Arjan De Zeeuw spoke about the team's defeat; "It feels pretty awful to be honest, we wanted to win this and we made critical errors and got punished," said the Dutch defender.

Liverpool defender Jamie Redknapp was also at The Millennium Stadium, he said "Manchester United were excellent, they got the goal and afterwards every player played well, Rooney and Ronaldo were excellent today".
