Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists Alan Smith could return from his horrific injury in "six or seven months".

Manchester United midfielder Alan Smith today said "Im on the road to recovery" after he suffered a horrific injury, which saw the England star break his leg and dislocate his ankle. Smith, speaking to The Sun said "I felt my leg go from under me as I went to block a free kick, when I looked down my leg was lying one way and my ankle pointing towards Hong Kong, so quickly I knew I was in serious trouble. The doctors have been positive and my operation was thankfully a success".
United manager Alex Ferguson has shown great delight in the courage that Alan Smith has shown throughout his ordeal. "It was a terrible injury but there are a lot of things in Alan's favor, particularly his courage and his age" Ferguson added.
