Blackburn manager Mark Hughes is to appeal against the red card shown to Stephane Henchoz in the 3-1 defeat to Newcastle at Ewood Park.
With Rovers trailing 2-0 following goals in the space of four minutes from Obafemi Martins and Steven Taylor, centre-back Henchoz was dismissed in the 40th minute by referee Dermot Gallagher as he fell on top of Martins after producing a clearing header.
Hughes said: "My interpretation of the sending-off is that Stephane made a good challenge in the air, and headed the ball away and has then come down on the back of the Nigerian player's legs. If you are harsh you would argue that it was foul. It would be too hard for a yellow card."
