Fergie hails United old boy
Nicky Butt will be one of the major obstacles standing between Manchester United and three more precious Premiership points at St James' Park tonight - and Sir Alex Ferguson could not be more delighted.
Butt, who made 380 appearances for the Red Devils before eventually quitting in 2004 due to a lack of obvious first-team opportunities, has been a revelation for the Magpies this season, helping to stabilise a youthful squad ravaged by injury.
"Nicky is a terrific lad and we are all pleased things are starting to work out for him," said Ferguson. "He had a rough ride to begin with but his form has come good now and, talking to Giuseppe Rossi during the week, he thinks Nicky has been their best player. I am sure at a time like this, Newcastle will benefit from his experience."
