Wigan striker Emile Heskey feels he missed an opportunity in not working with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

Heskey joined Birmingham in May 2004 for 6.25million, just four days before the Reds parted company with Gerard Houllier. Less than a month later, Liverpool appointed Benitez whose first season proved to be a resounding success as he guided the club to Champions League glory.

Although he has no regrets about his exit from Anfield, Heskey said: "It would have been good to have worked with him (Benitez). But I chose a different option, a different challenge because I didn't know what was going to happen with Mr Houllier at the time."
