Mark Kinsella has emerged as a possible candidate for the vacant manager's position at eircom League Premier Division side Derry City.

Derry parted company with Stephen Kenny after the end of the eircom League season two weeks ago.

The Dubliner will take time off from his new job at Dunfermline Athletic to return to the helm for Sunday's FAI Carlsberg Cup final against St Patrick's Athletic, but the Derry authorities have already begun the task of finding a replacement.

And Kinsella, currently a player-coach at Walsall, is an intriguing candidate for a first move into management at the Brandywell.

The 34-year-old, who won 48 senior caps for Ireland and played in all four games at the World Cup finals in 2002, has spent the past two-and-a-half years at the Bescot Stadium, graduating to the role of reserve team manager last year.

Kinsella's is the second name to be linked with the Derry job this week, following the news that Celtic youth team manager Willie McStay could be interested in a return to League of Ireland management.
