Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder for once enjoyed a healthy slice of good fortune as his side clinched top spot in UEFA Cup Group H with a hard-fought goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Magpies arrived in Germany ravaged by injuries, but knowing a draw would leave them in an unassailable position after victories over Fenerbahce, Palermo and Celta Vigo. In the event, Celta Vigo's 1-0 home victory over Fenerbahce ensured Roeder's men would have topped the group anyway, but he was happy his team had done it on their own merits.
He said: "This was without doubt the toughest of the four games. Frankfurt played an excellent game and made it very difficult for us."
