Sven-Goran Eriksson will sit by his phone on Friday praying for good news on England striker Wayne Rooney.
Rooney had an all-important scan on his broken metatarsal bone on Thursday and early unofficial reports hinted that he could play some part in next month's World Cup. Manchester United doctor Tony Gill will study the results of the scan and give his verdict to Eriksson and the England medical team.
The England boss said: "The scan has been done and the doctor will look at it on Friday morning. It is important to wait until he sees the scan. Let's wait and see. It is less than 12 hours. Then we will know the answer for sure. It will be huge for the country if he can be ready during the World Cup."
