O'Callaghan on transfer list

Cork City have transfer-listed midfielder George O'Callaghan at the player's own request as the three-week old dispute between the player and club took another twist on Monday morning.

O'Callaghan has been out of the picture at Turners Cross since a row with manager Damien Richardson earlier this month.

The 26-year-old, seen by many as the best player in the eircom League, has now been formally placed on the transfer-list.

In a statement, Cork manager Damien Richardson said: "As you are aware, George O'Callaghan has not played or trained with Cork City for the last number of weeks despite requests on our part to do so.

"George has informed us that he doesn't wish to play for Cork City FC anymore and he has requested that he be put on the transfer list. We have complied with his request."

However, any prospective buyers within the eircom League just have a few hours in which to make a move as the league's transfer window slams shut at midnight tonight (Monday).

That means that O'Callaghan could be on his way out of Ireland altogether, with a number of English clubs and Czech side Slavia Prague linked with moves for the player over the past few weeks.
