Leeds United fans made their way onto the Elland Road pitch after half time of their clash with Sunderland to verbally assault Black Cats manager Roy Keane.

The former Manchester United skipper was always going to receive a hostile reception from the Leeds fans, following the many battles between the great rivals.

Keane's career was almost ended on the same pitch in 1997 when his lunge on Alfe Inge Haaland ended with the former Republic of Ireland manager rupturing his cruciate knee ligament.

Stewards had to intervene as Leeds' supporters approached Keane, but fortunately, the situation was quickly defused and Keane laughed off the incident after the match.

"I just thought the fans got lost," said Keane. "I didn't see anything of it."
