Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce was furious with co-owner David Sullivan over his comments following the dismal 7-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Sullivan spoke out, saying that Chris Sutton was the key player to get City out of the relegation battle. Bruce responded, "I am disappointed by the owner's criticism of players. I don't think that should be aired in public."

"But he is the owner of the club and you have to respect what he says. He is entitled to his opinion. I haven't read his comments as I haven't read the newspapers. I find it disappointing but as I say we have to respect what he says," added the boss.

The comments followed Birmingham's 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in midweek, a game in which many City fans admitted they were humiliated.

Chris Sutton is the man that will cement Birmingham’s future in the Premiership, according to co-owner Sullivan. However, Sutton is currently out of action with a number of niggling injuries.

"We were playing well after Christmas but we need Chris Sutton back as soon as possible. He made an enormous difference when he arrived and maybe his fitness is the key to our survival," said Sullivan.
