Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham insisted that the resignation of Florentino Perez could cost Madrid a place in the next round of the Champions League.
Real played Arsenal in the qualifying round of the Champions League and lost 1-0, but they have a chance to redeem the result as they play the second leg. However Beckham says the chaos caused by the resignation has rocked the club.
"We are already the underdogs because we lost the first game. But the off-field distractions make it hard too, it is definitely not nice. Instability is not good for the players and there's been a lot of it - five managers in three seasons for me," said the England captain.
Fernando Martin took charge at Real, and Beckham hopes that the change will inspire the players to overcome defeat at Arsenal.
"He was instrumental in bringing in the galacticos and that will go down in history, the stars he brought to Madrid and the success. But he is gone now and I hope that might spur us on rather than go against the team. It is probably our biggest game of the season, especially after we lost to Mallorca last weekend," added Beckham.
Beckham is also excited about the prospect of coming back to England to play. It is the first time he has played in Madrid colours in England. "It's been a long time and I'm really looking forward to playing in England - and I will especially enjoy it if we win," said Becks.
