Makoun: "United are interested in me"

Lille midfielder Jean Makoun has announced that Manchester United will make a bid for him in the summer.

The Cameroon international played at the African Cup of Nations and impressed United manager Sir Alex Ferguson when Lille played The Red Devils in the Champions League. Ferguson was looking for a midfielder to replace Irish legend Roy Keane, who departed for Scottish side Celtic. 

"I know that United are interested in me, they sent a scout to our game against Monaco last week and my agents have met United. Apparently they want to sign me for next season. There is no concrete offer for Lille but I know United will make one at the end of the season," explained the youngster. 

With the injury to Alan Smith, United are struggling for midfielders, however Rio Ferdinand has shown he can play in the heart of the midfield, but then that leaves a massive gap at the back. Darren Fletcher, Ryan Giggs, Christiano Ronaldo and Ji-Sung Park have all played regularly this season. 

The news comes as Sir Alex announced that Paul Scholes would not be playing first team football until the beginning of next season following an eye problem.
