Chairman Adam Pearson says Hull have not been approached by Charlton about the possibility of Peter Taylor succeeding Alan Curbishley as manager.
Pearson told the Yorkshire Post he would let boss Taylor talk to a Premiership club but, despite much speculation, nothing has happened yet.
"It has always been the understanding that if a Premier League club comes in from London then he can talk," he said.
"It's all hypothetical and remains so unless they make a formal approach."
Curbishley stepped down at the end of the season after 15 seasons in charge of the Addicks.
Charlton say they have drawn up a shortlist of potential successors and will seek permission to speak to candidates, where necessary.
Taylor, who is also the England Under-21 coach, led Hull to successive promotions in 2004 and 2005 and is one of the favourites to take the job.
