Captain David Beckham insists it will "mean the world" to England if they can beat Portugal to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
He stressed the contest was not being seen as a grudge match, even though Portugal knocked England out of Euro 2004 at the quarter-final stage. Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari was also in charge of Brazil when they beat England at the last World Cup.
"I think for every one of us, it would mean the world to go further than we (the current group of players) have in this competition before," Beckham told a press conference televised on Sky Sports News. "It's not a personal battle against Scolari or Portugal."
