Wayne Rooney's return to full training has proved a big boost for everyone in the England camp except Jermain Defoe.
Tottenham striker Defoe has spent the last month on stand-by as Rooney raced against time to be fit for the World Cup finals. But, after the Manchester United star was declared fit to train after his broken foot, Defoe now knows he will not be part of Sven-Goran Eriksson's 23-man squad.
Defoe trained with the squad on Thursday, and the 23-year-old, whose attitude has been questioned, has impressed his England team-mates with his positive approach. Steven Gerrard said: "Jermain has been really professional. He's shown a great attitude."
