Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Shay Given has been afforded the Freedom of Donegal at a civic reception in his native town of Lifford this morning (Monday).
Given has been a remarkable ambassador for Donegal throughout his career.
Having started out at Celtic in the early 1990s, Given moved on to Blackburn Rovers and eventually to Newcastle United for £1.5m in 1997.
First choice at St James' Park ever since, the 30-year-old is regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premiership and recently won his 75th senior international cap for Ireland.
Donegal County Council members and officials were joined by the Given family at Monday's celebrations event.
