KNVB keen to extend Van Basten deal
Henk Kesler, the director of the Dutch Football Federation KNVB, has revealed plans to extend Holland coach Marco van Basten's contract until the next World Cup in 2010.
Van Basten's existing deal runs until 2008, taking in that year's European Championship in Austria and Switzerland. But Kesler told television show Nova that he would like the former AC Milan striker to remain in his post for a further two years.
"It is possible that I am telling a secret now," Kesler said. "But the KNVB would appreciate it if we can extend our contract with Van Basten until 2010 so that we can become world champions with the new squad in South Africa."
