Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has revealed Stilian Petrov is a player he is interested in signing.

Reports suggest he has flown to Tel Aviv for talks with millionaire backer Alexandre Gaydamak about his budget.

Petrov submitted an official transfer request towards the end of last season, which was rejected by Celtic.

Redknapp told the Scottish Sun: 'I like Petrov, he is obviously a top player and I am aware of the situation.

'But I'm not going to say anything else at the moment, because he is one of Gordon Strachan's main players.'

However, the Pompey boss appears to have cooled his interest in John Hartson.

His future is in doubt after it emerged Celtic accepted a £500,000 bid from West Brom for the striker who had intended to see out the remaining year of his contract.
