Captain Mark Viduka has joined his manager Guus Hiddink in refuting claims Australia are a dirty team.
The Socceroos kick off their campaign against Japan in Kaiserslautern on Monday having been forced to defend their physical style of play.
But Viduka insists Australia's playing style has always been physical.
"To be honest I don't know what all the hype is about," he said.
"We, as Australians and our team in particular, play fair every time when we go out to play.
"We are competitive people, we like to win and we will never pull out of a tackle but it doesn't mean we go out to hurt people."
