Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has confirmed he has made an approach to Fulham for United States striker Brian McBride.

With the new season less than a week away the Blues boss is keen to bolster his forward line as soon as possible and has admitted his interest in the 34-year-old McBride, as well as hinting Chris Sutton could yet return to St Andrews.

"We have been in touch with Chris over the summer and we will see what happens," he said. "We have also made an enquiry for McBride but at the moment that is all it is."
