Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has discarded Serbian giant Nikola Zigic as a possible new recruit at Fratton Park and may move instead for Preston striker David Nugent.

The former England Under-21 international is the latest to be linked with Redknapp's hunt for new signings after he confirmed he will not be persuing 6ft 8ins Red Star Belgrade striker Zigic.

Redknapp watched Zigic turn in an anaemic performance for his club against Cork City in the Irish team's 1-0 home defeat in the Champions League on Thursday and said: "He's not for me. I think I will save the club the money on that one."
