New Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been handed a £20 million warchest with rumours Spurs striker Robbie Keane is high on his priorities.

O'Neill has made an encouraging start to the season with the Midlands club but has already admitted he may have to dip into owner Randy Lerners millions in January. He said "The squad needs strengthening. I just hope the fans will trust me to do it as best I can."

His only additions to a paper thin Villa squad have been free transfer pair Chris Sutton and Didier Agathe and midfielder Stilian Petrov. However O'Neill is a keen admirer of the Irish international and looks set to make a move. Keane has been out of form this season with Tottenham only scoring once and may be keen to move back to the Midlands where he spent time with former clubs Wolves and Coventry City.

A move for the front man is likely to cost in the region of £5 million with Keane still having three years left on his White Heart Lane contract.
