Jose Mourinho has slammed Reading's Stephen Hunt after the Irish winger's challenge left goalkeeper Petr Cech hospitalized on a black day for the champions' netminders at the Madejski Stadium.
A first-half own goal from Ivar Ingimarsson gave Chelsea all three points, but their goalkeeping situation was the real focus of intention after the game.
Cech was sent to hospital after colliding with Hunt's knee inside the first 60 seconds, and replacement Carlo Cudicini was also stretchered off in neck brace after being knocked out cold in injury time.
John Terry finished the game between the sticks for Jose Mourinho's side, but while the Portuguese admitted Cudicini's injury was accidental, he was livid with Hunt for his early challenge on Cech.
He said: "It is one thing to break a leg or an arm, but the head is another thing all together. In terms of injuries in sport it is the one that scares you most.
"I saw both incidents on TV and they are completely different. The second was a violent fall and a free-kick against Reading.
"The first one was unbelievable. The goalkeeper has the ball in his hands, slides and the number 10 cannot get the ball. He goes with the knee into his face.
"If his head bones are not broken then he is a lucky boy. It was a very bad challenge. He was completely knocked out in the dressing room and went to hospital. I'm not saying his intention was to send him to hospital.
"But it was a very stupid challenge - one for the authorities to look at in the same way they looked at Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes."
