Martin O'Neill has admitted Aston Villa fans accustomed to "false dawns" have still to be won over despite the club's flying start to his first season in charge.

Villa Park was nearly 10,000 short of full capacity for Saturday's Barclays Premiership clash against Middlesbrough with just over 33,000 witnessing the 1-1 draw. O'Neill knows there is still work to do before the 'house full' signs will become commonplace even though Villa have been in the top six for the majority of the campaign.

The Irishman said: "We have still to really win the people over. For instance, we had taken four points from two away games with Everton and Wigan and the crowd on Saturday was 33,000. It would be great to see a day when people are desperate to get into Villa Park and see us playing."
