Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce believes Martin O'Neill would have done an excellent job as England manager.
Both men were interviewed about the possibility of succeeding Sven-Goran Eriksson, only to be rejected as the Football Association eventually opted for Steve McClaren.
"I think Martin O'Neill would have done a good job for England," said Pearce. "He is a fantastic manager and he is proving that again at Aston Villa. I have never worked under him but (City goalkeeping coach) Tim Flowers played for him and said he was an excellent man-manager."
