Pat Fenlon is reportedly considering his future at Shelbourne after a cash crisis enveloped the club in recent weeks, resulting in the non-payment of wages to players and management staff for the past fortnight.
Fenlon was approached to take over at Shels' near neighbours Bohemians following the departure of Gareth Farrelly in August.
An agreement was all but sealed, but he opted instead to stay at Shels and attempt to win his third league crown in four years.
However, the latest crisis which has afflicted the Tolka Park club has prompted a rethink from Fenlon, and he is expected, according to reports in several national newspapers on Monday morning, to step down as Reds chief at the end of the season.
Following Friday night's 2-2 draw with Drogheda United, he said: "I'm hoping I never have to experience this again. I won't be experiencing it again, that's being honest with you.
"I don't want to have to deal with what I'm dealing with at the moment, and I don't want my players having to deal with that either.
"It's the hardest season in Irish football I've ever been involved in. It's been a disaster on and off the pitch in more ways than one."
