Dermot Ahern Irish foreign minister has sought clarification from the IFA over letters sent to members of the Northern Ireland under-21 squad stating that they must carry British passports for international matches. A row has erupted within the IFA after the association claimed all their players would have to carry British passports, even though part of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement stated that Northern Ireland residents could carry either. As a result Mr. Ahern has written to to find out what the ruling is over the matter, although this row looks set to deepen as many players refuse to switch from an Irish passport to a British one.
