Ashley Cole is hoping to put an injury-plagued season behind him by helping Arsenal to Champions League glory next week before heading off to the World Cup with England.
The left-back has not featured for his country since the qualifying defeat against Northern Ireland in September last year after suffering a stress fracture of his foot which was followed by a succession of niggling fitness problems. However, the 25-year-old came on at Sunderland on May 1, and followed up by playing the whole of both the subsequent wins over Manchester City and Wigan.
Cole reported no ill-effects and was named in Sven-Goran Eriksson's provisional World Cup squad on Monday. He declared: "I feel good. I have not played too many games, but I have worked hard on the training ground with the fitness coaches and the physios, have got myself fit and am ready to go."
