Given to extend his contract

PFAI goal keeper of the year Shay Given looks likely to sign a new contract with Newcastle. The Irish International is desperate to win trophies in his career and has suggested in the past that he would be willing to look for a new club to realise his ambitions. Given's current deal expires next summer and the club is anxious to tie him to a new contract before the start of the new season.

Talks have been ongoing for some months, and Given is reportedly on the verge of signing a contract which will keep him at St James's Park until 2011.
