Mick McCarthy has been linked with the manager's position at Hull City, which could be made vacant if Charlton Athletic succeed in luring Peter Taylor to the Valley this summer.

Former Leicester City chief Taylor is the warm-order favourite to replace Alan Curbishley at the Premiership club.

And McCarthy - himself linked with the Charlton job last week - is in contention to replace Taylor at the Tigers in one of the first managerial merry-go-rounds of the summer.

The former Irish manager has been out of football since being sacked by Sunderland in March, but having guided the Black Cats to the Coca-Cola Championship title, and enjoyed success in the same division with Millwall earlier in his career, he could be an attractive candidate for ambitious Hull.
