Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd insists that Michael Owen will be at the club next season.
There has been much speculation regarding Owen's future at the club, many believe that he will be on his way back to Liverpool, but there's no way that Shepherd will let him go.
Newcastle paid a record fee for the former Real Madrid striker and Shepherd insists he is a 'long-term investment to score goals'.
"Michael's here next season. We paid a club record fee for him and he was brought here as a long-term investment to score goals," said Shepherd.
"It was a disappointing season for him but that was down to a bad injury. He's proved in the games that he's played that he will get us goals, so I'm not writing Michael Owen off - he's a huge part of this Newcastle team.
"He was bought to play alongside Alan Shearer and eventually replace Alan. Let's make no bones about that.
"We didn't pay that kind of money to bring in a bit-part player. Michael has spent a large part of the season out injured but he'll certainly be playing a big part in Newcastle's future."
