Southgate gives McClaren full support
Middlesbrough captain Gareth Southgate insists England fans should back Steve McClaren rather than knock him before he has the chance to prove himself as national team boss.
Within hours of McClaren's appointment on Thursday, polls on television and radio suggested the 45-year-old was an unpopular choice with the public. However Southgate is backing his club boss to come good.
Southgate said: "Only time will tell if he is ready for it. The fact is, he has got the role now and we all have to get behind him."
