Gretna demolished by Derry City

Eircom League runners up Derry City, trashed wealthy Gretna in the Uefa Cup last night in Fir park. About four thousand Derry fans travelled to Scotland to witness another great result for an Irish club in europe. Its not long ago that Bohemian FC also defeated Scotish club Aberdeen in the Uefa Cup with then manager Roddy Collins. Bohemians defeated Aberdeen away from home by two goals to one and consequently advanced to play German side Kaiserslautern where they lost the home leg but defeated the Germans in there home ground. Derry now look certain to advance to the next round with a fixture against one of the super powers of European football. The victory is another factor that illustrates the managerial skills of former Bohemian boss Stephen Kenny. The result highlighted that Irish football is moving in a strong direction and with as recent European results have been illustrated by Bohemian Fc, Cork City, Derry City and Drogheda United.
