Holland defender Andre Ooijer has revealed he sought the advice of former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy before completing his transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Blackburn.

Rovers completed a deal for Ooijer on Wednesday afternoon, for a fee thought to be around 2million, and the 32-year-old described it as "a good step for me".

Ooijer said: "When a club like Blackburn comes in for you, it was a simple choice for me, I heard a lot from other players that Blackburn was a warm club, it sounded like my former club PSV. I spoke to Ruud van Nistelrooy and he was very positive and I'm really looking forward to beginning."
