William Gallas has denied Chelsea's allegations that he threatened to score an own goal and has accused his former club of 'hiding behind false accusations'.
In an unprecedented move, the Barclays Premiership champions issued a statement which alleged that Gallas had refused to play against Liverpool in last season's FA Cup semi-final and against Manchester City at the start of the season. The club also insisted that the French defender had threatened to score an own goal, get sent off or make deliberate mistakes if selected.
Gallas said: "I am surprised and shocked by these remarks. I never said that I would score an own goal. I was very firm in my will to leave, that is clear, and I will explain at the appropriate time why."
