IFA hopeful Sanchez will stay

Irish Football Association chief executive Howard Wells is confident Lawrie Sanchez will be in charge of the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Denmark and Latvia next month.

Sanchez did not turn up for a post-match press conference after the splendid 3-2 victory against Spain in midweek, fuelling speculation he would not be in charge for the next set of matches, in October.

When asked if Sanchez will still be in place for the next games, Wells said: "That is certainly my expectation. The fans are the focus of this, he's very supportive of the support he has had from them. He's mindful of that and that's very important to recognise."
