Spain have rejected an offer of resignation from national team coach Luis Aragones.
Aragones made the offer at a meeting with Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) officials on Monday in the wake of his side's shock defeat at Northern Ireland in a Euro 2008 qualifier last Wednesday.
Speculation has surrounded Aragones' position for several days, after the coach himself admitted the RFEF would probably consider his future. But after Aragones offered to go, the RFEF rejected it and asked the coach to reconsider.
'The federation has full confidence in him," said RFEF spokesman Jorge Carretero. There is no reason why we should accept his departure. He has asked for two days time to make a definite decision.
'He has our full trust, but it's up to him to make a decision. We will try to convince him but we will obviously have to accept his final decision.'
