Derry defeat Shels in crunch tie
Derry City closed the gap on leaders Shelbourne to just three points on Tuesday night, and with a game in hand on the leaders, the Candystripes will now be many people's favourites to lift the title. However, both sides face some tough assignments over the final few weeks of the season.
Both sides have games against third-placed Cork City and fourth-placed Drogheda United to come, so both Cork and Drogs, although they have waved farewell to their own title aspirations, can still play a major role in the destination of the title.
Shels arguably face the tougher run-in, with an away game against fifth-placed Sligo Rovers and a Dublin derby against Bohemians completing their fixture-list.
Derry, on the other hand, must meet bottom two Waterford United and Bray Wanderers before the end of the season.
