Everton expect to hear on Wednesday that David Weir has no more than a bad headache after the injury that saw him taken to hospital for a head scan and tests.

Everton cruised to a 4-0 win over Luton in the Carling Cup on Tuesday with goals from Tim Cahill, James McFadden, Victor Anichebe and a Keith Keane own goal. But Everton assistant boss Alan Irvine revealed the team were more concerned with the condition of their skipper, who had been unconscious on the pitch before being carried off and taken to Fazackerley Hospital.

Irvine said: "The lads were in the dressing room and they did not know how David was, they were very concerned and wanted to find out how he was before they went back on to the pitch. Everyone was very relieved at that point."
