Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has wished Chelsea's Petr Cech a speedy recovery as he prepares to return to his former club for the first time since leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Cech's condition improved on Monday after the Blues goalkeeper underwent an operation on a depressed fracture of the skull over the weekend. The Czech Republic international was injured in the opening minute of their 1-0 win over Reading on Saturday when he collided with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt.

Gudjohnsen, who spent six years with the Barclays Premiership champions, told El Mundo Deportivo: "I hope that he recovers as soon as possible because, mainly, he is a great person."
