Matthew Upson has been forced to delay his comeback until the middle of November.
The England player had been pencilled in to return in a reserve-team game on October 8 after recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained in the warm-up before the derby at Aston Villa in April.
But Upson, who had previously been sidelined for two months with an abductor problem, missed that planned return date.
The 27-year-old has suffered minor setbacks in his rehabilitation and will not be risked until he is fully fit by manager Steve Bruce.
